One hundred percent of hops on commercial acreage in the Northwest are treated with insecticides to protect the crops from aphids and spider mites. This application reduces the percentage of infested hops from upwards of 76 percent to just 3 percent.

Crops have to compete with more than 10,000 different types of plant-eating insects and 30,000 types of weeds.
