The amount of cropland dedicated to certified organic farming grew from approximately 850,000 acres in 1997 to more than 1.7 million in 2005. However, this figure represented only 0.5 percent of total U.S. cropland in 2005.

Increased agricultural production from the use of crop protection products results in more than one million jobs and generates more than $33 billion in wages for U.S. workers.
